Tried And Tested: An Exhilarating Paintball Outing In NYC

Prepare for battle! Get your game on with paintball in an epic, multi-level arena in Brooklyn.

Paintball is not something you typically think of doing in NYC, but I recently participated in a paintball outing with some friends at Area 53 in Brooklyn and had an absolute blast. Here is a quick rundown of the experience!

While most paintball experiences are outdoors, you can find some indoor places like Area 53, which opened a couple years ago. They have two locations -- one in Williamsburg that includes Paintball and Adventure Park, and a second one in Dumbo with Laser Tag.

The Paintball experience in Williamsburg takes place in a 20,000 square foot, multi-level arena that includes real-life hazards and obstacles. You really feel like you are in a real-life battlefield as you jump through hoops, take the high ground, and fight from above.

Area 53 offers both Open Paintball and Private Paintball. Each slot is 3-hours long, and you are guaranteed 3 games per slot (with each game being 10-15 minutes). Make sure to wear closed-toed shoes, layers, and gloves to protect your body from the paintball.

There are multiple game modes - capture the flag, king of the hill, team death match, lights out, and more. Area 53 welcomes you to bring food and drinks - just no alcohol since drunk paintball is not a great idea.

In addition to paintball, you can enjoy Adventure Park and arcades. This ultimate indoor adventure park features ropes course, rock climbing, ninja course, skating, laser maze, slides, battle beam, and much more.

While I didn't get to experience this, Area 53 also has a second location in Dumbo that offers Lazer Tag. This is another action-packed, but less painful alternative to paintball.
