I googled (oh, the convenience of the world wide web) the recipes online and off I go! For the chocolate chip cookie batter, I put in less butter and sugar than what the recipe called for. Since I didn't have an electric mixer, I had to gun down and use my arm muscle to mix all the ingredients with a good ole' whisker. I popped them in the oven and out came about two dozens chocolate chip cookies! Mmhm the smell was unbeatable. Sadly, because I witnessed the amount of butter and sugar that went into the mix, I couldn't gather the courage to taste one. Instead I made a second batter: sugar cookies, my favorite!
Now, I tweaked the recipe quite a bit. Instead of putting butter, I used milk & water as a moisturizer. I used significantly less sugar as well. The butterless sugar cookie mix was very sticky and I had hard time getting it off my fingers. The cookie dough tasted fine, so I was very excited to taste my first ever butterless cookies. But when they came out of the oven...I'm not going to lie. THESE DID NOT TASTE LIKE COOKIES AT ALL!!! I would equate them more to sweet, soft dinner rolls. I had to literally soak them in milk to make it taste better. Wow, utter failure.
Before I criticize my cooking ability further, I am not saying the "cookies" didn't taste good. In fact, I actually didn't mind the taste. But they just weren't the sugar cookies I love, like the ones at the Hillel. These were not cookies that I baked. If I may, I would change the name to "Pseudo Sugar Cookies Bread." Well, they don't even deserve the name cookie.
Sometimes in the near future, I am going to attempt to make pumpkin bread. If I want to be healthier, I'm safer with making bread because dessert does not equal healthy! (and without butter, it's a failure).
