On April 20, 1868 — at a time when no other U.S. restaurants would admit or serve women unless they were escorted by a man — the Delmonico brothers proudly took a bold step forward by hosting the first women-only luncheon organized by The Sorosis Club, America’s first women’s rights organization. These fierce females ultimately went on to pave the way for numerous women's clubs across the country — and sitting down to lunch at Delmonico’s was their first victory. To celebrate this momentous occasion, Delmonico's showcased a special menu by internationally acclaimed chef and New York Times best selling author Gabrielle Hamilton.
